Number of solid fuel heaters in Poland 2019, by cities
Old boilers for coal and wood are the main cause of air pollution in Poland. Of the Polish voivodeship cities, the most significant number of coal and wood-fired boilers were replaced in Kraków - more than 4.1 thousand in 2019. Wrocław took second place with 1.4 thousand boilers replaced, and Katowice took third place with 1.2 thousand coal and wood-fired stoves replaced and an estimated 20,000 still to be replaced. Radomsko, Gorzów Wielkopolski, and Białystok replaced the least solid-fuel heaters in 2019. Comparison of the number of boilers replaced with the total number to be replaced shows that this rate of replacement will lead to their complete decommissioning in several decades.
