Production of soya beans in South Africa 2000-2022
As of 2021/2022, the production of soya beans amounted to nearly 1.89 million metric tons. This represents a slight drop of roughly 0.59 percent from the preceding year. Throughout the period of 2000 to 2022, an overall increasing trend can be recognized with two major drops in 2006/2007, 2015/2016, and 2018/2019. In 2006/2007, the total production dropped from 424 thousand to 205 thousand metric tons, while in 2015/2016 it fell by approximately 30.7 percent. In 2018/2019, production of soya beans decreased by around 24 percent. These declines could possibly be related to low precipitation affecting maize production and later the soya beans planting cycle.
