Change in agricultural output in East Germany 1970-1989
The annual growth of East Germany's agricultural output fluctuated between -5 and 10 percent throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Overall, growth was positive, although inconsistent. The fluctuation was largely driven by inconsistent harvests, while growth in the animal sector was comparatively stable (apart from a larger drop in 1982). Between 1970 and 1984, productivity in East Germany's agricultural sector grew by 45 percent, whereas it increased by 98 percent in West Germany.
