Federal Antimonopoly Service fines on foreign companies in Russia 2021
In July 2022, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia fined Google two billion Russian rubles (around 34.9 million U.S. dollars) for allegedly taking advantage of the dominant position of YouTube on the video hosting market. In the previous year, the authority fined the online travel booking service Booking.com 1.3 billion Russian rubles. The FAS identified that the platform abused its dominant market position by making it impossible for its partner accommodation sites to set prices lower than those placed on Booking.com.
Other prominent antitrust cases launched by the the FAS were against Apple in April 2021 and Google in August 2016. Both companies were fined for prioritizing particular apps on iOS and Android devices, respectively.
