Use of multimedia journalists in local TV news U.S. 2021, by market
According to data gathered in the final quarter of 2021, television newsrooms in the top 25 markets were the least likely to use mostly MMJs (multimedia journalists) for their reporting, with less than 35 percent saying they did so compared to 95.3 percent of stations in the smallest markets. Multimedia journalists use various tools to create and ultimately distribute their content, including video shooting, audio editing, graphic design, and more. Employing such a journalist, who essentially acts as a one-person reporting crew, can help stations to keep costs down, and can aid in reaching audiences who may not engage with traditional news formats.
