Barriers to owning a bank account in Nigeria 2020-2023
At 49 percent, the most recurring barrier to bank account ownership among respondents in Nigeria in 2023 was low or irregular income. Other barriers, such as attitudes or perceptions about bank account ownership and problems accessing banks, tied for second place at 33 percent each. Moreover, unemployment and the cost of banking each decreased as reasons between 2020 and 2023.
