Italy: projected carbon dioxide emissions from 2000 to 2050
Emissions by sector
Italian Emissions are generated primarily by the activities carried out in the energy sector. Nonetheless, industry and electricity and heat production are the sectors with the most remarkable decline in the level of emissions over time. Conversely, comparing the emissions generated in 1990 and 2015 from the transport sector it comes out that they increased by three percent.
Comparison with CO2 emissions in selected European countries
The level of CO2 emissions has always been lower in Italy than in Germany and in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, it was higher in Italy than in France and Poland. Nonetheless, Poland was the only country among the ones mentioned above, where the level of CO2 emissions increased between 2005 and 2017. In the other countries considered – including Italy – the level of CO2 emissions generally decreased , even though the decline had diverse intensities throughout the different countries.
