Number of internally displaced persons in Africa 2023, by country
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the African country with the highest number of internally displaced persons, those forced to leave their house but remain within their country's borders. In 2023, the Democratic Republic on the Congo counted some six million IDPs, in a population of around 90 million people. Somalia had roughly 3.9 million displaced persons, while Nigeria had about 3.4 million.
