Regions or countries believed to be the most likely to innovate payments 2022-2027
Respondents from Asia-Pacific had a different opinion on which area in the world is to be a hotbed for payments innovation than those from the Americas. When asked in a survey held during a fintech event, the United States was seen by most attendees to be the most likely geography in the world for payments innovation. Notable, however, are the responses from Asia-Pacific attendees: They placed India and Japan far higher than their counterparts from the Americas or the EMEA. To some extent this is not uncommon, as respondents generally favored their own areas. EMEA attendees, for example, were more likely to name "Africa", while respondents from the Americas looked at South America. This is likely caused by the UPI, or the Unified Payments Interface, in India, a digital payments infrastructure rolled out by the country's central bank and is believed to
