Greenhouse gas emissions in Canada 2005-2022
Canada's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were estimated at 685 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. This represents an annual increase of 2.1 percent, and an overall decrease of 6.4 percent from 2005 levels. The North American country has set the target of slashing its GHG emissions by 40 to 45 percent by 2030, relative to 2005 levels.
