Majority of Brussels Airport flights are commercial
Examining the distribution of flights at Brussels Airport, most of these flights carried passengers, as approximately 85 percent had a commercial (passenger) purpose. Furthermore, 6.2 percent were cargo flights, whereas five percent were general aviation and business flights. A large part of these passenger flights were to Mediterranean countries. 72,495 from the total of 189,000 Intra-European commercial flights at Brussels Airport flew to the Mediterranean, whereas roughly 59,000 flights had a West or Central European country as destination.
Cargo flight volume recovers after 2013
The volume of cargo flights at Brussels Airport amounted to roughly 25,000 flights in 2007 but declined to a total number of 11,000 cargo flights in 2013. Despite this strong fall, the number of flights recovered again after 2013 and in 2018 it increased to a total of 14,900 flights. In 2020, the number increased again to 18,900 flights.
